Parametric Analysis with Rhino Grasshopper
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Project description
I need a freelancer to take a reference photo of a small sculptural maquette and turn it into a fully realised 3D digital model, then produce fabrication-ready technical drawings from that model.
The piece
An abstract figurative sculpture of a human diver in a plunging, mid-descent pose — wrapped entirely in a rope-textured surface. The attached image is a physical maquette (a small handmade study model) that represents the intended form, posture, and proportions. The final sculpture will be built at 12 metres in length.
What I need delivered
1. A clean 3D digital model (Rhino preferred) of the full figure, matching the proportions and pose shown in the reference image, scaled to 12 metres.
2. The model needs to be broken down into individual panels suitable for cutting from aluminium sheet — accounting for compound curves vs single-curve sections, with a logical assembly sequence.
3. A set of technical drawings derived from the model: orthographic views (front, side, top), a panel layout/unfold diagram for each section, and an assembly drawing showing how the panels and internal armature come together.
4. Drawings need to be in a format a fabrication workshop can use directly to CNC-cut the aluminium panels — DWG, DXF, or PDF with dimensions, whichever is standard for your workflow.
Important context
This is for an outdoor public sculpture installation in Qatar, suspended horizontally between two buildings. The internal structure will be a welded aluminium tubular armature with formed aluminium sheet skin over it, finished externally with rope wrapping. I am not asking you to engineer the structural load calculations — that part will go to a licensed structural engineer separately. I need the geometry, panelization, and fabrication drawings only.
What I’m looking for in your application
Please show me past work involving organic/freeform surface panelization — facade design, sculptural fabrication, or similar parametric modelling projects are all relevant. Rhino and Grasshopper experience is required given the complexity of the curved geometry.
I will provide the reference image, exact overall dimensions (12m length), and can answer any questions about proportions or pose during the process.
