Medium Plastic Compression Mold Design

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I need an experienced mold designer to create a complete Compression mold for a Plastic component that falls in the Medium (10-30 cm) size range. The goal is to move from concept to a production-ready solution that can be handed straight to a toolmaker.

Scope of work
• Build a detailed 3D model of the Compression mold, including parting lines, cavities, core design, and any inserts.
• Provide 2D manufacturing drawings with tolerances, material specifications, and surface finish notes.
• Integrate runner layout, venting, and basic cooling channels so the toolmaker has clear guidance.
• Run a quick manufacturability check (Moldflow, SolidWorks Plastics, or your preferred tool) and flag any potential shrinkage or warpage issues.
• Supply a concise build/assembly guide so the shop can set up, mold, and maintain the tool with minimal back-and-forth.

What I will share
A STEP of the part, draft requirements, and target shot volume once we start. I can also give reference photos of similar molds that have worked well for us in the past.

What I’m looking for in you
Solid experience designing Compression molds for plastics, proficiency in mainstream CAD (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or similar), and the ability to communicate clearly about trade-offs. If you have sample drawings or screenshots from previous projects, please include them.

Deliverables
1. Native CAD files plus STEP/IGES export
2. Fully dimensioned 2D drawings (PDF + DWG/DXF)
3. Short build/assembly guide (PDF)
4. Manufacturability report summary
