Job Summary:
The Freelance Packaging Design Engineer is responsible for developing, designing, and optimizing 3D packaging solutions for medical devices in compliance with regulatory and quality standards. This includes creating 3D CAD models, packaging assemblies, and label identification layouts that ensure product protection, compliance, and usability throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and design 3D packaging concepts for medical devices, components, and accessories using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor).
Ensure packaging designs comply with ISO 13485, FDA, and ISO 11607 packaging validation standards.
Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings and packaging specifications
Design and layout label identification including product information, regulatory symbols, barcodes, and branding in accordance with applicable medical labeling standards.
Evaluate packaging materials (such as medical-grade plastics, paperboards, and films) for suitability and sustainability.
Provide renderings and visual presentations of packaging concepts for review and approval.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
Proven experience (2+ years preferred) in 3D packaging design for medical devices or similar regulated industries.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
Knowledge of medical device labeling requirements (FDA 21 CFR Part 801, EU MDR, ISO 15223).
Excellent attention to detail, documentation skills, and ability to meet project deadlines.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional and remote teams.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with graphic design tools (Adobe Illustrator, ArtiosCAD, or similar) for label and carton layout.
Knowledge of sustainable packaging solutions and eco-design principles.
Experience working under ISO 13485 quality management systems.
