Foamboard C-130 Cargo Plane Blueprint
Budget: $10 – $600 USD
I want to commission a complete design package for a foam-board C-130-inspired RC aircraft with a 12-foot wingspan. Its primary mission is cargo transport, so the airframe has to lift and safely fly a 10–12 lb payload stored in an internal bay positioned as close to the CG as practical. That bay must hold roughly five gallons of candy and let me load, secure, and, if desired, release the cargo in flight. Smooth ground handling and stable slow-speed behaviour are critical so that drops happen without drama.
Structure & materials
• All major components must be optimised for common dollar-store or Adams foam board, reinforced only where absolutely necessary to keep weight down.
• A four-motor layout stays true to the Hercules look; please size powerplants and props so the model clears the required payload with comfortable thrust margin.
• Span, tail volume, and moment arms should be tuned for docile handling—think trainer-like stall characteristics, predictable flare, and easy trimming.
What I expect to receive
1. Printable build plans: full-size tiled PDFs (and the original CAD/DXF files) with clearly marked cut, score, bevel, and fold lines.
2. A detailed, step-by-step construction guide that walks a builder from first cut to maiden flight; photos or exploded 3-D views are welcome, not mandatory.
3. Comprehensive parts list covering foam sheets, spars, hardware, and any reinforcements.
4. Recommended electronics: motor KV, ESC ratings, prop sizes, battery specs, and servo counts with suggested torque—enough detail that I can place a single order and know it will fly.
5. Notes on optional mechanisms for the in-flight drop (servo-actuated ramp or belly door) while maintaining a secure hold during normal flight.
Please base aerodynamic calculations on realistic foam-board Reynolds numbers, document the CG range, control throws, and predicted stall speed, and flag any red-line weights or airspeeds I should respect. When finished, I should be able to hand the files to a club mate and have them build the same reliable candy hauler with little guesswork.
