Exterior Concrete Basement Stairs Design
Budget: $300 – $500 CAD
I am preparing to cut an exterior stairwell down to my basement floor and want a set of stamped drawings that a Winnipeg building inspector will sign off on.
Scope
• 4 ft-wide reinforced concrete stairs, smooth finish, dropping roughly 6 ft from existing grade to the slab.
• Structure must tolerate our clay soil’s seasonal heave and the local 6 ft frost depth. Footings, retaining walls, reinforcement and backfill specs all need to reflect that.
• Drainage handled by a dedicated sump-pump pit at the stair landing, with clear pipe sizing, weep hole locations, gravel envelope, geotextile, and tie-in to the house sump line. Please show alternatives only where code allows.
• Drawings must cite the current National Building Code of Canada, Manitoba amendments, and Winnipeg permitting notes.
• Add walls and a roof over the stairwell with a door at street level.
Deliverables
1. Plan, section, and elevation sheets in PDF and editable CAD.
2. Reinforcement schedule, footing details, control-joint layout.
3. Waterproofing and dampproofing notes for the basement wall cut.
4. Written installation sequence highlighting clay-soil considerations and winter-pour precautions.
I will supply photos, measurements, and the existing foundation drawings once we start. Plans that pass a local engineer’s review on the first submission will mark project completion.
