Drone Gimbal & Quick-Release Mount Design
Budget: $30 – $250 AUD
I’m building out a small drone platform and need two closely related mechanical designs produced from scratch:
• A mounted 2-axis (or compact 3-axis if it can be kept lightweight) gimbal that bolts directly to a drone frame.
• A companion quick-release mount that lets me detach or swap the gimbal in seconds without tools.
Scope and expectations
– I’m after practical, ready-to-3D print CAD rather than elaborate industrial styling. A solid functional concept, weight-conscious part geometry, and straightforward manufacturability are the priorities.
– Standard deliverables should include editable STEP or SolidWorks files, simple 2D drawings with key dimensions/tolerances.
– If you can add basic load or vibration checks to prove the design won’t chatter in flight, that’s a bonus but not mandatory within this budget.
Key constraints
• Payload: ≤300 g (camera + wiring).
• Drone mount pattern: 30 × 30 mm or 20 × 20 mm hole spacing on M3 screws.
• Quick-release must lock positively yet be operable one-handed.
• Keep total gimbal + mount mass under 120 g.
Communication
Share early screenshots or sketches so I can sign off on the approach before you finalise the model. I respond quickly and can provide frame measurements or photos on request.
If you’re comfortable turning lightweight mechanical ideas into clear, build-ready files, I’d love to work with you.
