Custom Van Awning Tube Build
Budget: €30 – €250 EUR
I want to have a two-metre long tube fabricated that can store a rolled awning and its two telescopic support legs. The tube will sit above the cabin on my van, release the material two metres out before it begins to unroll, and finally reach a full four-metre projection once deployed. The free edge then fixes to the vehicle with either a suction cup or a small hook.
Material preference for the tube is plastic; the awning fabric itself can be canvas, polyester, vinyl—whatever meets the strength and weight requirements. What matters most is that the first two metres remain rigid so it never sags while I pull the rest out.
When asked about animation I explained that my priority is the build. If you already have a short 3D or 2D clip to illustrate your concept, great, but price your proposal around engineering the mechanism, specifying components.
Deliverables I need from you:
• Detailed drawings or CAD of the tube, spindle, legs, end caps, and mounting points.
• Bill of materials (with sourcing suggestions not important).
• Estimated manufacturing or prototype cost not important at this stage.
• Optional: a quick visualisation to demonstrate deployment sequence.
I’m ready to move quickly once I see a practical, costed solution.
