Athlete Tape-Style Armband Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m developing a wrist armband that convincingly mimics the look of an athlete’s tape wrap. The piece is meant to be purely decorative: no medical-grade compression or sweat-wicking features are required, but the illusion has to be flawless.
What matters most is how it feels to the eye and to the touch. I need the surface texture to replicate real athletic tape—tiny ridges, faint weave lines, slight matte sheen—while the finished band must appear seamless from every angle so no fastening or edging breaks the illusion. Material choice is still open; I’m happy to explore silicone, fabric blends, or any hybrid you recommend, provided the result is comfortable on skin and durable enough for everyday wear.
Deliverables I’m looking for:
• Concept sketches or mood boards that lock down texture and overall aesthetic
• A production-ready 3D model/CAD file with clear tolerances and wrist sizing guidance
• Prototype specifications including suggested materials, finishing process, and color references (Pantone or equivalent)
• Simple assembly or molding instructions that ensure the final product has no visible seam
Acceptance criteria:
1. When worn, the band should read as authentic athletic tape at a glance, even from close range.
2. Texture fidelity and edge-to-edge continuity must match the approved sample images.
3. All source files and models are delivered in editable formats (STEP or equivalent) so manufacturers can jump straight to tooling.
If this sounds like a challenge you’re excited to tackle, please tell me which material approach you’d start with and any prior examples of texture replication you’ve mastered.
