Woodturning Tool Prototype Design

Job ID: 40293680

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I have an early concept for a multi-purpose woodturning tool and I need someone to turn that idea into a build-ready prototype. At this stage it is nothing more than sketches and functional notes, so your primary task is to translate the concept into detailed 3D CAD and engineering drawings I can hand straight to a machinist.

Core functions
• Cutting and shaping
• Detailing and finishing
• Hollowing out

The finished design must handle both hardwoods and softwoods without swapping cutters mid-project, so balance, vibration control and edge durability are critical. I am open to carbide inserts, HSS, or a hybrid tip system if it meets those goals.

Deliverables
1. Parametric 3D model (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar)
2. Fully dimensioned drawings with tolerances and material specs
3. Exploded view for assembly, including handle, shank, and interchangeable tip layout
4. Short bill of materials and manufacturing notes

Acceptance criteria
• Demonstrated clearance angles for all three operations
• Stress / deflection check for hardwood loads
• File set opens without errors and follows standard layer / part naming conventions

If you have experience bringing turning tools or other shop equipment from concept to shop floor, I’d love to see examples of your past work along with your proposal.
