Wooden Dome Observatory Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m building a compact, all-wood stargazing observatory and need a full Fusion 360 model that I can take straight into the workshop. You’ll be working from 50-plus reference photos (attached). Although I don’t have existing drawings, the images capture every exterior and interior angle of a similar dome-roof structure, so they should give you an excellent visual brief.
The job breaks down into three clear phases. First, translate those photos into a clean parametric model in Fusion 360, incorporating a rotating dome roof and keeping to plywood and timber construction methods and joinery that a hobbyist shop can reproduce. Second, generate a practical drawing set: cut lists, dimensioned elevations, section views, and any jigs or sub-assemblies that will make fabrication straightforward. Finally, we’ll have a review round to fine-tune dimensions, hardware choices, or panel thicknesses once I lock my material list.
Timeline is important to me: I’d like to see an initial pass inside two weeks, with one additional week reserved for tweaks and refinement. Expect to produce a few iterative uploads in native Fusion 360 format (.f3d) plus printable PDFs for the drawings. If you’re comfortable with shared screen walkthroughs or annotated screenshots during revisions, that will make the feedback loop smoother.
