Mechanical Switch / Tactical Stick – Manufacturable Design Layout
Project Description:
We are looking for an experienced 3D mechanical product designer to create a manufacturable design layout for a
switch/tactical stick based on our initial concept sketch. The design will be used by a manufacturing company to
produce a working prototype and later mass-produce the item. This is not just a conceptual 3D model — we need
manufacturer-ready deliverables, including CAD files and detailed drawings.
Scope of Work:
• Convert provided sketch/concept into detailed 3D CAD models (STEP/IGES).
• Prepare 2D manufacturing drawings (DWG/DXF + PDF) with dimensions, GD&T; tolerances, surface finish
requirements, material and finishing callouts.
• Design breakdown into parts: housing, telescopic tubes, locking mechanism, springs, pins, end cap.
• Provide exploded assembly drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Include notes for machining, surface finishing, tolerances, and assembly instructions.
• Optimize design for strength, durability, and cost-effective manufacturing (CNC or die-casting, tube drawing,
etc.).
• Deliver a final design that can be handed directly to a contract manufacturer.
Deliverables:
• 3D CAD Files (STEP/IGES + native format).
• 2D Detailed Drawings (DWG/DXF + PDF).
• Exploded Assembly Drawing.
• Bill of Materials (BOM) with material/finish specifications.
• Assembly notes & QC checklist.
Requirements:
• Proven experience in mechanical product design (preferably tactical tools, mechanical locks, or similar
hardware).
• Strong knowledge of materials (Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Springs, Rubber/Polymer tips).
• Experience preparing manufacturer-ready documentation.
• Ability to balance compactness, durability, and ergonomics.
• Deliver high-quality files suitable for CNC machining and die-casting.
Nice-to-Have:
• Prior work on tactical sticks, batons, extendable tools, or defense equipment.
• Knowledge of locking mechanisms (detent-pin, cam-latch).
• Understanding of mass-production constraints.
Timeline & Budget:
Initial CAD + drawings: within 2–3 weeks.
Budget: Open to proposals, depending on experience & scope.
