Refine STL/CAD Design for 3D Prototype
Budget: $100 – $300 USD
Title: Modify Existing STL and CAD Design for Functional 3D Printed Prototype
Project Overview
I have an existing 3D printed product prototype that is currently functional but has several design issues that need refinement before moving to the next prototype iteration.
The project currently exists as STL files and slicer files. The design has already been printed and tested in the real world, allowing me to identify specific improvements that need to be made.
Scope of Work
I am seeking an experienced CAD designer and 3D modeling professional who can:
• Import and work from existing STL geometry
• Rebuild or modify components as needed in a CAD environment
• Improve hinge design and functionality
• Relocate and redesign lock slot positioning
• Adjust clearances and tolerances based on prototype testing
• Improve printability where appropriate
• Maintain overall design intent and dimensions
• Prepare updated files for 3D printing
Deliverables
• Editable CAD source files (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD, or similar)
• Updated STL files
• Any supporting assembly files
• Notes regarding modifications made
Project Details
The product is a mechanical assembly intended for 3D printing. The current prototype has been printed and evaluated, and I can provide:
• Existing STL files
• Existing slicer files
• Photos of printed prototypes
• Markups showing areas needing revision
• Written explanation of desired changes
Ideal Candidate
• Strong mechanical design experience
• Experience designing parts specifically for FDM 3D printing
• Familiarity with hinges, latches, locking mechanisms, and moving assemblies
• Ability to reverse engineer STL geometry into editable CAD
• Experience with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inventor, FreeCAD, or similar platforms
When Responding Please Include
• Examples of previous mechanical or product design work
• Experience modifying STL-based designs
• CAD software used
• Estimated turnaround time
This project will likely lead to additional revisions and future design work as the product moves through prototype development.
