RGBW Beacon Prototype with Wi-Fi Control
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I need an experienced hardware designer who can turn my concept for a cylindrical, flashlight-style RGBW 'beacon' into a working, weather-resistant prototype. It has to shrug off rain and humidity with an IP-rated enclosure, remain visible in full sun or heavy cloud, and run from a rechargeable battery. Smooth, precise brightness control is critical—I want remote dimming and color mixing over Wi-Fi, not just simple on/off states.
Core requirements
• Cylindrical housing (roughly flashlight form factor) with a frosted diffuser above the LED stack, all components housed inside the cylinder
• High-output RGBW LED module, optics chosen for daytime visibility
• On-board Wi-Fi (ESP32 or similar) for wireless control and OTA updates
• Rechargeable battery can be 21500
• Electronics and sealing strategy that survive rain, humidity, and heat on a turf field.
• Firmware API or simple web endpoint so I can issue color/brightness commands remotely
Ideally prototype cost is below $50, can assume wholesale pricing, 60$ at the most.
Deliverables
1. Schematics, PCB files, and bill of materials
2. 3-D CAD of the enclosure, including gasket and fastener details
3. Firmware source with documented Wi-Fi control endpoints
4. One fully assembled, tested prototype shipped to me
Acceptance criteria
• Beacon maintains full brightness for at least 4 hours on a single charge
• LED remains clearly visible at noon on an overcast/sunny day from 30 m+
• Unit passes a 30-minute garden-hose spray test with no leakage
• Wi-Fi control latency under 300 ms for colour/brightness changes
