Mixed-Terrain Robot Mower Design
Budget: £10 – £15 GBP
I’m putting together the complete design package for an autonomous lawn-mowing robot that can handle more than 1.5 acres of mixed terrain while chiefly trimming short grass. Your task is to turn the core idea into a build-ready set of documents: 3D CAD models, detailed mechanical drawings, motor and drivetrain selection, control architecture, and a clear wiring diagram.
Because the property combines flat stretches with gentle hills, stability and traction strategies—such as an articulated or independently driven wheel setup—need to be baked into the concept. I also want straightforward, sensor-based navigation (GPS + RTK or comparable) and obstacle detection that can be sourced with readily available components.
Key deliverables
• Native CAD files (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) with assemblies and exploded views
• Bill of materials listing off-the-shelf parts and estimated costs
• Schematics for power distribution, safety interlocks, and any microcontroller/PCB layout
• Brief control logic flow showing how the mower will map and follow large-area mowing paths
• Assembly and maintenance notes so a small workshop could build and service the prototype
I’m happy to discuss trade-offs—tracks vs wheels, lithium vs AGM packs, sensor suites, etc.—but the final design must be practical to fabricate without exotic machining. If you’ve engineered mobile robotics or outdoor automation before, I’d like to see samples of that work when you bid.
