2-Inch Construction Fastener Prototype
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I already have a rough concept for a two-inch plastic fastener that will be used on job-sites, and now I need a mechanical engineer to turn that idea into a production-ready reality. The part must reliably clamp or lock into place against other plastic or rubber components and continue to perform under extreme temperature swings commonly found on outdoor builds.
What I need from you
• Refine the geometry so it can be injection-molded without sink marks or warping.
• Produce complete 3D CAD files and dimensioned drawings (STEP and native SolidWorks or Inventor preferred).
• Run basic FEA to confirm the fastening tabs survive high and low temperature stress.
• Suggest a practical resin choice, noting any required additives for UV or thermal stability.
• Deliver a first-article prototype—either 3D-printed in an engineering-grade polymer or machined from the recommended resin—so we can verify fit and function on site.
Acceptance will be based on the CAD passing design-for-manufacture checks, FEA demonstrating an adequate safety factor, and the prototype fitting snugly to adjoining plastic/rubber surfaces without visible deformation after thermal cycling.
