Food-Safe Cooling Insert Design
Budget: ₹12,500 – ₹37,500 INR
I have a small (under 1 L) plastic storage container that needs an instant-cooling insert. The goal is to chill freshly cooked or ambient food down to refrigeration range within minutes, using a single-activation endothermic reaction that is 100 % food-safe and sealed.
What I am looking for
• A complete engineering concept for the insert or internal compartment that fits the container’s footprint without reducing usable volume more than necessary.
• Choice of endothermic chemistry that is GRAS-compliant, non-toxic even if the outer capsule were breached, and capable of at least a 20 °C temperature drop.
• Encapsulation strategy (film, pouch, rigid pod, etc.) compatible with polypropylene and other common food-grade plastics, including wall thickness, sealing method, and thermal conductivity data.
• 3D CAD files (STEP or SolidWorks) ready for rapid prototyping.
• Bill of materials with supplier references for chemicals, barrier films, and any specialty additives.
• Brief test protocol outlining how I can verify cooling performance, leach-test results, and reusability limits (if applicable).
Acceptance criteria
– Insert snaps securely into the lid or base of the container with no tools.
– No component may raise food temperature once reaction is finished; latent heat must dissipate safely.
– All materials meet FDA food-contact guidelines and EU 10/2011.
– Supporting calculations show total enthalpy change and predicted cooling curve for 250 g of food mass at 60 °C.
