I am creating a mechanical toy made primarily from wood with soft silicone accents that encourages neurological development and healthy habit-building in children aged roughly 1 – 5 years. The concept blends the charm of a classic wind-up or pull-back action with modern child-development principles, so every movement, sound and texture should engage motor, sensory and early cognitive pathways without relying on electronics or batteries.
Here is what I need from you:
• Initial concept sketches that translate my vision of “neurological and habit architecture” into an engaging play pattern.
• Detailed 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar) suitable for CNC machining or small-run injection-moulded silicone parts.
• Mechanism design for a safe, durable manual motion—think gentle wind-up gears or inertial pull-back wheels—that can withstand toddler handling yet remain quiet and low-maintenance.
• Material call-outs specifying child-safe hardwoods, food-grade silicone and non-toxic finishes, plus guidance on meeting ASTM F963 / EN71 safety standards.
• Assembly drawings and exploded views that a prototype shop can follow without guesswork.
Acceptance criteria
– All parts sized for hands under five years old, with no swallowable pieces under 31 mm.
– Smooth, rounded edges and a pull force under 50 N on any detachable component.
– Mechanism must complete at least 500 cycles in simulation or bench test with no failure.
– Deliverables supplied as editable CAD files (.STEP or native), high-res renders and a concise bill of materials.
