Design Ear Light Therapy Device
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
I’m developing an ear-worn light therapy device intended to lift mood while also promoting deeper, more regular sleep. I have the market research and clinical rationale; what I need now is a product design engineer who can turn that vision into an actionable concept.
The core brief is straightforward: create an elegant, comfortable ear-mounted form factor that delivers therapeutic light through LEDs. The device must allow users to vary light intensity on the fly and communicate wirelessly with a companion app or base station for basic control and firmware updates. Power will come from a compact rechargeable battery, so component layout, weight balance, and thermal management have to be considered from day one.
I’m looking for end-to-end concept generation: early sketches, ergonomic studies, material recommendations, and a manufacturable 3D CAD model that integrates LEDs, optics, battery, PCB, and a discreet antenna. Experience with wearable plastics, soft-touch over-moulds, and small-scale Li-ion power packs is important, as is familiarity with Bluetooth-Low-Energy or a comparable low-power wireless protocol.
To keep the project grounded, please include:
• Three distinct concept directions with sketches and rationale
• A refined CAD assembly of the chosen direction in STEP or SolidWorks format
• Preliminary BOM with indicative part sizes and weights
• Notes on regulatory considerations (IEC 62471 photobiological safety, FCC/CE for wireless)
When we’re happy with the concept I’ll move on to detailed engineering, PCB layout, and prototyping—ideally with the same designer. If this sounds like a project you can illuminate, let’s talk timing and milestones.
