Custom Laboratory Liquid Measurement Device Design

Job ID: 40561186

Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR

Job Title:

Optomechanical/Product Design Engineer Needed for Custom Laboratory Liquid Measurement Device (CAD/STEP)

Project Overview:
We are designing a high-precision fuel density and volume testing device. We require a manufacturing-ready 3D CAD model (STEP/IGES formats) of a custom 500 mL testing beaker assembly. The assembly integrates a borosilicate glass beaker, an automatic overflow/spillover mechanism, a sapphire glass optoelectronic sub-chamber, a floating target, and embedded sensors.
We need 3 to 5 physical prototype units produced, so the design must be optimized for small-batch specialized manufacturing (scientific glass blowing/machining and precision optical assembly).

Key Design Components & Scope:
1. Beaker Geometry (Borosilicate Glass):
* Must hold an internal volume of exactly 500 mL from the base up to the lower lip of a side-mounted overflow spout.

* Features an integrated, downward-angled overflow spout. The transition edge must be a sharp knife-edge to prevent liquid surface tension from holding back fluid.

* Flat, uniform base for clean seating on an external load cell.

2. Optoelectronic Sub-Chamber & Lid Assembly:
* A sealed metal/polymeric lid housing a Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser distance sensor.

* The sensor must look through a circular Sapphire Glass Shield to isolate it entirely from volatile fuel vapors (petrol).

* Must include an engineered gland/groove for a Viton O-ringproviding a reliable gas-tight seal (target 15% to 20% compression) without inducing fracturing stresses on the brittle sapphire glass.

* Mount must hold the ToF sensor perfectly perpendicular (90°) to the window.

* Provision/thread port to mount a **NTC/PT100 Temperature Probe** extending down near the bottom of the beaker.

3. Floating Target Disc (PTFE):
* A lightweight, custom-profiled floating disc machined from black virgin PTFE (Teflon).
* Must feature a "Top-Hat" stepped profile (raised central platform to act as a dry laser target; lower outer buoyancy ring to prevent tilting/surface tension wrapping).
* Tolerances must allow the disc to slide smoothly up and down the beaker wall without jamming or drifting into the overflow channel.

Required Freelancer Deliverables:
* Production-ready 3D CAD Assembly (Native files + .STEP and .IGES).
* Individual component files ready for manufacturing submission.
* 2D Technical Drawings with explicit dimensioning and geometric tolerances (GD&T), specifically focusing on the O-ring compression gland and the glass-to-metal sealing interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications :
* Strong background in Optomechanical Engineering, Scientific Apparatus Design, or Enclosure Design for Volatile Environments.

* Proven experience designing seals for glass, sapphire, and fuel-resistant elastomers (Viton).

* Ability to advise on DFM (Design for Manufacturing) when working with specialized scientific glass blowers and precision CNC machine shops in India.
