Custom Dashboard Phone Mount
Budget: $30 – $250 CAD
I’m developing a dedicated phone-mount that fixes securely to the dashboard, not the windshield or air-vent. The end product must be molded in durable automotive-grade plastic, blend cleanly with most interiors, and keep vibration to a minimum while giving the driver single-handed access to the screen.
Here’s what I already have in mind:
• Placement: centred dashboard position, low enough to avoid blocking the road view but high enough for easy glance navigation.
• Device sizes: must accept phones from 5" to 6.7" (case on).
• Installation: tool-less if possible—think press-fit or a single thumbscrew locking mechanism that clips to existing trim seams. No adhesive pads.
• Finish: matte black or textured dark grey plastic that resists UV fading.
What I need from you:
• Industrial-design input and 3D CAD files ready for injection-molding (STEP/SolidWorks preferred).
• Simple tolerance drawings for the mechanical engineer/molder.
• A quick FEA or comparable stress check showing it will hold at least 2 kg without creep in 60 °C cabin heat.
• Renderings to illustrate the mount in place so I can pitch to stakeholders.
I can supply dash dimensions and reference photos the moment we kick off. If you have experience designing small plastic automotive accessories and can guide material selection (ABS, PC-ABS, or similar) all the better. Please let me know about comparable products you’ve taken to production and your expected turnaround for first revisions—my timeline is tight but realistic if we iterate efficiently.
