Create a 3D printable board that is strong and rigid in one direction and flexible and articulate in the other direction

I’d like to create a board made out of five panels that link up together and is able to be strong and flat when folded out in one direction. And in the other direction the individual panels become flexible and articulate. I’m not sure if it is possible but I am hoping it is. If you’re able to help at all please let me know.
