Compress STL & Convert STEP

The STL file I have on hand is currently tipping the scales at well over 1 GB, which makes it unwieldy for sharing and downstream CAD work. I need that mesh intelligently decimated so the file size drops to 150 MB or less—without losing the crisp, high-detail geometry that will matter once the model is in a solid format.

Once the STL is trimmed to the target size, please convert it to a single .STEP file that opens cleanly in mainstream CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, etc.). Surface quality and feature fidelity must remain visibly identical to the original high-resolution mesh; no obvious faceting or broken faces.

Deliverable:
– One .step file ≤ 150 MB that preserves the high-detail features of the source model.

If you prefer to send an interim, optimized STL for review first, that works too—as long as the final STEP meets the size and visual-quality targets.
