Compact Umbrella CAD Prototype
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have a hand-drawn concept for a folding device that functions much like a pocket-sized umbrella, and I’m ready to turn that sketch into a fully detailed CAD model. The core goal is easy portability, so every millimeter and material choice must contribute to a slim, lightweight profile without sacrificing strength.
Here’s what I need from you: transform my sketch into a parametric 3D model and accompanying drawings that spell out exact dimensions and the material specifications for each part of the mechanism. I’ll share the critical measurements I already know, but I’m also open to your suggestions on hinge geometry, telescoping sections, and any other tricks that keep the folded length to a minimum.
Because this will go straight to a prototype shop, accuracy and clear call-outs are essential. Experience with folding consumer products, spring-loaded mechanisms, or compact hardware design will be a big plus.
Deliverables
• Native CAD file (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
• STEP/IGES export for manufacturing
• Dimensioned 2D drawings with material notes
• Exploded view or animation that shows the folding sequence
If you can bring practical design insight as well as solid modeling skills, let’s discuss timelines and get this portable invention ready for its first physical build.
