Comfortable Pet Hydration Port
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I am developing a multi-use temporary, subcutaneous fluid port that lets veterinarians and pet parents deliver maintenance or emergency hydration to dogs and cats. The goal is a low-profile device that sits just under the skin, causes as little irritation as possible, and can be painlessly removed once the patient is stable.
Comfort for the pet guides every design decision. The housing must be molded from proven, medical-grade plastic; I will need your help selecting a resin that is both biocompatible and cost-effective for short-term use. Edges have to stay perfectly smooth, the footprint must remain small enough for toy breeds yet robust enough for large dogs, and the port should accept a standard luer-lock or similar connector that seals automatically between infusions.
What I need from you
• 3D CAD files ready for rapid prototyping and eventual injection molding
• A concise material and manufacturing brief (resin choice, draft angles, gate placement, anticipated cycle time)
• Basic FEA or equivalent stress analysis showing the port will not crack under normal handling or bite force if chewed after removal
• Recommendations for insertion technique and any disposable introducer that would simplify placement in a clinic setting
If you have experience with veterinary or human implantables, ISO 10993 testing, or small-run clean-room manufacturing, please highlight it—those skills will move us forward faster.
