3D CAD Specialist for Automative Part Segmentation
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
Summary
CAD Specialist Needed to Segment STEP File for I have this project
3D Printing (8-Inch Sections + Two-Half Version)
Project Overview
I have a professionally cleaned STEP (.stp) file created from a 3D scan of an automotive sheet metal part. I need an experienced CAD designer / mechanical modeler to prepare this model for 3D printing in two different segmentation formats.
The goal is to compare printing strategies and preserve exact original dimensions for validation against the original part.
Required Deliverables
Deliverable A — 8-Inch Sectioned Version
Create a version of the STEP model divided into approximately 8-inch tall printable sections.
Requirements:
Horizontal segmented sections suitable for standard FDM printer beds
Preserve original dimensions exactly
Clean mating surfaces
Easy to assemble accurately after printing
Deliverable B — Two-Piece Version
Create a second version of the same model divided into two major sections.
Preferred:
Best split line based on geometry and printability
Upper/lower split or another logical split you recommend
Preserve geometry and dimensions
Joining Features Required on Both Deliverables
Alignment Tabs at Every Seam
At each cut seam, add:
1/2-inch total joining tab
Shared between mating parts:
1/4 inch tab on one side
1/4 inch mating overlap / receiving geometry on the other side
Purpose:
easier glue-up
stronger seam
better self-alignment
Indexing / Registration Holes
At each seam include alignment holes.
Preferred:
2–3 holes minimum per seam
Prevent shifting / twisting
Sized for common dowel pins / drill rod / printed pins
Scope of Work
1. Import and Review Existing STEP File
Validate geometry
Confirm units and scale
Preserve original dimensions
2. Build Two Segmented Versions
Version 1:
8-inch sectional model
Version 2:
Two-piece model
3. Export Deliverables
Please provide:
STEP files for both versions
STL files for all printable sections
Native CAD source files (preferred)
Labeled files and organized folder structure
Example:
Version_A_8in_Section_01.stl
Version_A_8in_Section_02.stl
Version_B_Half_Upper.stl
Version_B_Half_Lower.stl
Important Requirements
No scaling
Preserve exact outer geometry
Tight mating seams
Accurate alignment between parts
Designed for real-world 3D printing and glue assembly
Preferred Experience
Looking for someone experienced with:
SolidWorks
Autodesk Fusion
FreeCAD
Rhino 3D
STEP file repair / surface modeling
3D print model segmentation
