MMO Avatar Sprite Creation and Integration
Budget: $50 – $150 USD
Project: Isometric MMO Player Avatar — 8-Direction Sprite + Phaser Integration
I'm building a Habbo-style isometric social MMO using Phaser 3 + Colyseus (TypeScript), and need an experienced 2D game artist who can also integrate their work into a live codebase.
1. Project Context
Pixel-art isometric world, 2:1 tile ratio (~26.57° projection). Real-time multiplayer via Colyseus. I have reference art for the character style (chibi proportions) and can share repo access or a written integration spec, whichever you prefer.
2. Core Deliverable: Base Avatar
One chibi-proportioned base character, fully rigged for 8-directional movement:
Directions: S, SE, E, NE, N, NW, W, SW
States: Idle and Walk cycle, each direction
Style: clean pixel art, consistent with isometric tile perspective
Critical technical requirement: a consistent foot anchor point across every direction and every frame — no vertical bobbing or horizontal sliding during turns or walking. This is the most important quality bar; please confirm in your quote that your pipeline handles this.
3. File Deliverables
Source files: PSD or Aseprite
Exported sprite sheets + JSON atlas (Phaser-compatible format, e.g. Texture Packer / Phaser atlas JSON)
Organized naming convention for direction/state/frame (happy to align on a convention together)
4. Integration Work
The avatar needs to actually run in my existing Phaser/Colyseus setup:
Map player facing (from server-synced movement) to the correct direction sprite
Switch between idle/walk animation based on movement state
Either I send you repo access to integrate directly, or you provide clear integration code/instructions for my team to wire in
5. Required Experience
Isometric game art specifically (not just general pixel art)
8-direction character sprite production
Sprite sheet / atlas export pipelines
Phaser 3 (hands-on, not just "familiar with")
Colyseus experience is a bonus, not required
Portfolio requirement: please link 2-3 examples of directional/animated characters you've shipped, ideally isometric
6. Future Phase (quote separately, not in scope now)
Modular paper-doll clothing system: swappable hair, top, bottom, accessories, each registered correctly across all 8 directions and animation states. I want a separate quote for this so I can decide on it later — don't build it into your base price.
7. What I Need in Your Proposal
A. Start with the word "GAME ART" (confirms you read the full brief)
B. Quote + timeline for base avatar (8-dir idle + walk)
C. Quote + timeline for Phaser/Colyseus integration
D. Separate quote + timeline for the modular clothing system (optional/future)
E. 2-3 portfolio links showing directional animated characters
F. Brief note on how you solve the foot-anchor/no-bobbing problem
