Custom 2D Game Environments
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
My game needs a set of expressive 2D environments that immediately pull players into the world. The brief ticked “Environment design” and marked the sub-category as “other” because the job extends past a single background, a batch of props, or a level sketch—it’s the whole atmosphere in one coherent package.
Style is also tagged “other.” I’m purposely steering clear of the usual cartoonish, realistic, or pixel-art labels so we can explore a distinctive, painterly look that blends subtle textures with bold shapes. Think of environments that feel hand-crafted yet production-ready: layered, parallax-friendly, and optimized for in-engine use.
Deliverables
• Mood boards or rough concept thumbnails to confirm direction
• Final layered PSD (or equivalent Clip Studio / Procreate file) with clearly named folders for foreground, midground, and background elements
• Separate PNG exports for each layer, ready for parallax scrolling
• A concise read-me noting canvas sizes and any special FX suggestions (lighting passes, particle overlays, etc.)
Acceptance criteria
• Visual style matches the approved concept and sits outside the standard cartoon / realistic / pixel spectrum
• All layers align perfectly when imported into Unity or Godot (no gaps, no stray pixels)
• Colours and values read clearly in both bright and dim in-game lighting scenarios
If you enjoy building entire worlds on a canvas and can keep file organisation clean, let’s craft something memorable together.
