Whimsical Black-and-White Illustration
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m commissioning one full-page illustration for my upcoming book. The scene is an imaginary boutique called “Compass.” Think of neat, perfume-style shelves, but instead of fragrance the bottles contain human values—courage, adventure, resilience, patience, and any other traits you feel suit the mood.
Style
I picture a playful, slightly surreal look: swirling line work, exaggerated shapes, and a hint of classic pen-and-ink whimsy. Everything remains strictly black and white; the charm comes from texture, shading, and clever composition rather than colour.
Focus
The bottles and their labels are the real heroes. I want each value to feel almost tangible, so the typography on the labels should be readable yet artistically integrated. The rest of the store can fade into suggestion—just enough shelving or signage to anchor the setting without stealing the spotlight.
Deliverables
• High-resolution print file (minimum 300 dpi, sized for 6 × 9 inch page, PNG or TIFF).
• Layered source file (PSD or AI) so I can adjust placement in layout later.
• A down-scaled web version for marketing teasers.
Please keep any background elements light and let your imagination run free with the bottle shapes and label lettering. When the viewer opens the book, I want them to feel they’ve stepped into a shop where you can literally pick up a dose of adventure—no colour needed, just pure black-and-white wonder.
