Realistic Ukrainian Fantasy Art
Budget: $15 – $40 AUD
I'm looking for talented Ukrainian artists and illustrators to create realistic, Ukrainian-inspired fantasy art for a game book. The artwork should incorporate themes of folklore, paganism mythology, and historical events from early proto indo/european influences including Scythians/Sarmations etc to Kyivan Rus Varangians, Orthodox and other religious influences, Tatar and Cossack Hetmanate through to mid 1700's with musket/Cannon and battle wagons within and around the Ukrainian borders.
Requirements:
- Realistic art style (however I aim to have two short comic pieces added as prologue and epilogue ~8 pages with ~ 4-6 panels on each representing current period)
- Themes of Ukrainian folklore, mythology (Chort, Mertsi etc), and historical events with a fantasy inspired interpretation.
- Digital or traditional art mediums (no AI)
- Mix of natural landscapes, village life, creatures, part and full body, items/equipment and action scenes.
- Primarily colour, but will consider some black and white linework in parts.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Strong background in realistic traditional or digital art
- Deep understanding of Ukrainian culture, folklore, history and cultural sensitivities with ability to interpret and expand upon historical contexts.
- Ability to create engaging and imaginative fantasy artwork
The goal is to generate, one compelling front coverwork (ideally in blue and yellow), one rear half panel and ~100+ internal colour artworks for commercial use. Aim is to have a proportion of sales profits go to a registered Ukrainian charity and in the meantime support Ukrainian artists. Secondary goal is to expand the wider communities (and Ukrainians) knowledge of and appreciation for their culture.
Majority of book contents and general themes established, so briefs for each artwork should be clear to follow.
