Metal Bookmark Design – Cut-Through (Celestial, Dragon & Book Stack Cat)

Job ID: 40181378

Budget: $250 – $750 AUD

I’m looking for a designer/illustrator to create three original metal bookmark designs for my bookish brand.
I am not an artist, so I need someone who can take clear themes and manufacturing constraints and turn them into strong, production-ready designs.

This project is for cut-through metal bookmarks (not engraving), so designs must work using negative space and bold, clean shapes.

Bookmark Specifications (Required)
Final size: 50mm (W) x 160mm (H)

Material: Metal
Manufacturing method: Cut through metal (laser cut / die cut)
Not engraved or etched
Designs must rely on cut-outs / negative space
Corners: Rounded corners (no sharp edges)
Border: A visible border around the full edge of the bookmark

Required for strength and structural integrity
Tassel hole:
One circular hole at the top of the bookmark
Positioned centrally or near-centrally
Must be functional and cleanly defined

Designs must be suitable for real-world metal production — no ultra-fine lines, shading, or surface detail that wouldn’t survive a cut-through process.

The Three Designs Required:

-Celestial Theme
Moons, stars, celestial elements
Elegant, mystical, and bookish
Clean, balanced composition
Open to creative interpretation and refinement

-Dragon Theme
Dragon-inspired design (full dragon or partial form)
Fantasy aesthetic with a strong silhouette
Bold and dramatic, but suitable for metal cutting

-Book Stack Cat Theme
A stack of books with a cat incorporated
Cozy, book-lover feel
Cute but not childish
Clear shapes that translate well to metal

Deliverables:
Three final designs, one for each theme
Vector, print-ready files suitable for manufacturing
(AI, SVG, EPS, or similar)
Designs sized correctly to 50mm x 160mm

What I’m Looking For:
Experience designing for physical products, not just digital artwork
Understanding of cut-through / laser-cut metal design
Ability to balance aesthetics with durability and structure
Willingness to share draft concepts before final delivery

Nice to Have (Optional):
Experience with bookmarks, metal products, or laser-cut designs
Suggestions to improve strength or visual impact while maintaining the brief

If this sounds like a project you’d enjoy, please include examples of similar illustration or product-based work in your proposal.
