Different Symmetry
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
Hi. I have written a Sc-fi novel, and need someone to work on the cover artwork. I have a few sketches and some very basic 3D models in Blender as starting points. I'd like to think I have a firm grasp of the images, but, although I am a fairly competent artist (painting in acrylics etc.) I don't think my end product would look professional enough. I'd like to know more about costs as this is my first book (so far) that I have completed the text. Different Symmetry is the present working title.
I have two differing images in mind for front and back covers. One is set in an underground cavern with omni-directional lighting from luminous fungi growing on the walls. There are three characters: An Adult Maker, a 'Mono-symmetrical' alien, a bit like a caterpillar segmented body, but with just one large semi-circular compound eye at the 'front' and a mouth below, and a bar code ID above the eye. It has a single row of 8 extruded limbs that can form multiple functions of grasping, or locomotion, with a mottled camouflage skin. There is a Juvenile Maker very similar, slightly smaller, and with only four limbs. And then there is an alien 'Tri-Symmetrical' robot. I have Blender 3D of a typical robot. Everything is fanatically based on triangles or circles.
The other cover has a view over a very alien planet overlooking similar Tri-symmetrical alien robots working outside the top of an extremely tall tower - almost a space elevator, so the robots are floating free / tethered. These robots have significantly bigger top spheres housing a bigger brain.
Inside the tower, through transparent walls, can be seen an alien creature of similar form to the tri-robot, but with more natural, blended body parts, and the brain at the top clearly has three lobes.
The land below reveals a band of cultivated farmland with pockets of habitation, each with its own central Solar Collector tower (These are tall, but nothing like the space elevator) - The buildings have mirrored roofs angling suns rays to the top of each tower. There are THREE Suns, but only just discernible through thick clouds. The farmland vegetation need not be green, but I have not said otherwise (I think.)
There is an ocean to one side, a hint of a desert to the other, and in the hazy distance an uninhabitable purple forrest!
I also made a very crude Blender version of the tower landscape view.
I hope that has fired the imagination.
I'll send extracts of text and my 3D images for a better view if I think I can afford the work!
Looking forwards to hearing from someone.
