Stair Stringer Support Box Drawings

Job ID: 39756235

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I already have the full house blueprints in PDF but I’m missing one critical element: an engineered detail for a 1′-6½″ box that sits in the centre of the stair opening and runs continuously from the basement up to the second floor. That box will carry a single stair stringer, so the detail needs to be structural, practical, and easy for framers to follow.

Material preference is straightforward—use a 2×6 stud wall sheathed with plywood. If you see a good reason to suggest an LVL alternative or a hybrid, feel free to flag it, but the baseline must work with standard 2×6 framing stocked on-site. I don’t need a permit stamp; I just need a clear, build-ready detail that matches the existing plans.

I’m relaxed about connection specifics: standard hardware is fine, but if you have a cleaner custom solution, I’m open to it. Likewise, the notes don’t need to be elaborate—just whatever is necessary to keep the crew from guessing.

Deliverables:
• Plan and section drawings (PDF) sized to print at 11×17.
• Member sizes, fastener/plate call-outs, and any blocking or load-path cues.
• Concise framing notes placed directly on the sheets so the framers can pick them up and build without extra interpretation.

Hand back the PDFs, I’ll drop them straight into the drawing set and release them to the field.
