70s Watercolor Rotoscope Animation
Budget: $75 – $250 USD
I have an 8-second live-action clip that I need hand-rotoscoped into a 12 fps animation that channels the dreamy 70s watercolor aesthetic of “Belladonna of Sadness.” Roughly six seconds contain visible faces; the rest is background lead-in and out.
The look I’m after leans heavily on that film’s muted yet psychedelic color palette, delicate pencil-like line work, and soft, almost paper-grain textures. I want those three traits to sit front and center on the characters while the backgrounds stay suggestive—but still textured—to keep the focus where it belongs. Character expressions should land somewhere between true-to-life and stylised emotion; think occasional exaggerated flourishes that never stray into pure caricature.
Absolutely no AI filters or automated roto tools—every frame needs to be drawn by hand in whichever software you prefer (TVPaint, Photoshop, Toon Boom, etc.) as long as the final export is an Apple ProRes 4444 or lossless PNG sequence.
Deliverables
• 12 fps animation aligned perfectly to my source footage (I’ll provide a synced reference).
• Final rendered clip + the layered working file (character layer + bg layer) or project file so I can make colour tweaks later.
Acceptance criteria
• Consistent line weight and water-stain texturing across all frames.
• Colour shifts match the original’s timing and mood.
• No dropped frames; total run time must remain exactly 8.0 seconds.
