About the project
We are a creative project in need of a talented digital illustrator to help bring our world, characters, and stories to life - a children's book. We're looking for someone with a sharp eye, a distinct style, and a love for visual storytelling who can work collaboratively across a range of illustration deliverables. Illustrator needs to be based in Australia.
What you'll work on
Character design
Creating and refining original characters with consistent visual identities across the book.
Scene & background illustration
Building atmospheric environments and settings that support the story and tone.
Comics & panels
Laying out sequential art panels with clear visual storytelling, pacing, and composition.
Cover art
Producing polished, eye-catching cover illustrations that capture the essence of the project.
Spot illustrations
Smaller standalone pieces used to accent and enrich pages, layouts, or promotional material.
What we're looking for
Proficiency in digital illustration tools (Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Clip Studio, or similar)
A strong portfolio demonstrating range — characters, environments, and sequential storytelling
Ability to maintain consistent character styles across multiple pieces
Comfortable working from creative briefs and incorporating feedback through revision rounds
Reliable communicator who can meet agreed deadlines and keep the team in the loop
Nice to have
Experience with mystery, detective, or narrative-driven creative projects
Background in comics, graphic novels, or zine illustration
Passion for quirky, character-driven storytelling with a sense of humour
