Hand-Drawn 2D RPG Boss Character & Animations
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m developing a hand-drawn 2D action RPG / Metroidvania and am looking for an experienced 2D animator to create and animate one important boss character.
The character is an old, heavy reptilian warrior. He should feel powerful and dangerous, but also aged and physically tired. His movement should communicate weight, experience, and personality rather than simply being fast or exaggerated.
The visual direction is cartoonish, hand-drawn, and game-oriented, with strong silhouettes and expressive frame-by-frame animation.
Animation Deliverables
The character will require:
Breathing idle animation
Walk cycle
Run cycle
Jump animation
Three distinct attack animations
Damage / hit reaction
Dramatic death animation
The attacks should include clear anticipation, impact, follow-through, and recovery, and should transition naturally back to the idle/combat state.
Walk and run animations should communicate the weight and anatomy of a heavy reptilian creature. Leg movement, shoulders, hips, head, body and tail should work together naturally rather than moving independently.
Animation Style
I am specifically looking for hand-drawn frame-by-frame 2D animation.
Smooth motion is important, but animation quality, timing, weight, anatomy and readable poses are more important than simply using a high number of frames.
Consistent proportions and clean silhouettes throughout all animations are essential.
Deliverables
Final delivery should include:
Individual PNG frames and/or sprite sheets
Transparent backgrounds
Clearly named animation sequences
Smooth gameplay-ready loops where applicable
Original editable source files (Krita, PSD, Procreate or equivalent)
The assets should be ready for implementation in a game engine.
Application
Please include:
Examples of previous frame-by-frame character animation
Your preferred drawing/animation software
Estimated completion time
Your animation workflow, from rough sketch to final colored frames
I will provide the character reference and additional animation direction to the selected animator.
I am ready to start immediately.
