GORE ALERT: Hawaiian Sugar Co., Factory in Puunene, Maui: YouTube Urbex Documentary Edit

Job ID: 39698316

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

Project Overview

I have ~1 hour of raw footage from an exploration of an abandoned sugar cane factory in Maui, Hawaii. The Hawaiian Sugar Co., Factory in Puunene, Maui. I need an experienced editor to craft a 10–15 minute YouTube video in chronological order (arrival → interior → exit), including:

A 1–2 minute animated explainer + brief history of the factory (2D or 3D motion design required).

MUST INCLUDE A GTA 5 STYLE SHOT ZOOMING IN AND OUT OF LOCATIONS. THE FIRST AFTER THE EXPLAINER ZOOMING OUT FROM THE FACTORY AND TOWARD MY HOTEL. (MARRIOT OCEAN CLUB, MAUI. THE SECOND SHOT WILL BE AFTER THE B-ROLL TO SPEED UP THE PACE OF THE VIDEO AND GET TO THE FACTORY. I'VE PROVIDED AN EXAMPLE BELOW.
https://youtu.be/wwhPqCt8PI0?si=069hU-8Ta6duu1pI

A few B-roll shots of the approach/drive/walk-up to the factory (some provided; you’ll supplement with licensed stock).

INCLUSION OF SENSITIVE FOOTAGE: THERE IS A DEAD BODY IN SOME OF THE CLIPS. This MUST be included around the ~8:00 mark, heavily blurred/mosaicked and edited strictly within YouTube’s policies (no graphic detail). Add an on-screen content warning before that section.

What You’ll Deliver

Main edit (10–15 min) in a somewhat clear chronological order.

1–2 min explainer/history segment using 2D/3D animation (charts, maps, timelines, archival stills, tasteful motion graphics).

B-roll integration of arrival/approach (blend my footage + licensed stock you source).

Sensitive-content treatment:

Place the blurred body segment ~8:00.

Add content warning card.

Sound: light music only under B-roll and any sections where it helps pacing; natural sound prioritized elsewhere. Clean dialogue/ambience, remove harsh peaks, add subtle SFX where appropriate.

Color: consistent grade for moody/abandoned look; stabilize only where necessary.

Captions: export an SRT file (English).

Assets I’ll Provide

~60 minutes of raw video (mixed handheld/locked shots).

Some B-roll of the drive and exterior.

Any on-site VO notes; any archival images I already have.

What You’ll Source

Stock B-roll (roads/landmarks/archival sugar industry context) with proper licenses for YouTube.

Archival images/articles as needed for the history segment (public domain/CC-BY/licensed).

Music/SFX with licenses cleared for YouTube (no claims).

Required Skills

Strong documentary/story edit skills with chronological builds and tension management.

2D/3D animation (After Effects, Blender, Cinema 4D, etc.) for the explainer/history.

Sensitive content handling: blur/mask/mosaic, pacing, and compliance with platform policies.

Audio cleanup/mixing, color correction/grading, titling, and captions.

Experience with urbex/documentary or true-crime/sensitive subjects is a plus.

Style & Structure Notes

Hook within first 20–30 seconds (arrival tease), then title card, then 1–2 min explainer/history to set context, then the exploration.

Natural sound > wall-to-wall music. Music only under B-roll and where it helps momentum.

Minimal flashy transitions; keep it cinematic and grounded.

On-screen lower-thirds for key locations/rooms; simple map animation for where the mill is on Maui.

Tech Specs

Frame rate: deliver at 23.976 (or match source; confirm after sample review).
