Cartoon Children Book Illustrator
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I’m finishing a picture-book (pop-up) based on Indian epic called Ramayana aimed at toddlers aged 2-5 and I need a digital artist who can bring each scene to life in a soft, cartoonish style. The story centres on bedtime routines, so every page has to feel warm, comforting and safe while still bursting with colour and simple, expressive characters that little readers can recognise.
The manuscript runs 32 double-page spreads plus two book covers. I will supply detailed page-by-page briefs (characters, setting, palette hints and key emotional beats) along with rough thumbnail layouts. You would translate those notes into polished, high-resolution illustrations suitable for print (300 dpi CMYK) and e-book release (RGB).
Layered PSD or Procreate files are preferred so the text designer can adjust placement if needed.
Important to note:
This project will begin with a single paid illustration as a trial. Upon successful completion, the full project will be awarded to the selected artist.
Deliverables I’d like to receive:
• 14 finished double-page spreads
• Front and back cover artwork with spine extension
• Source files and flattened TIFF/PNG exports
Important — Intellectual Property Terms:
This is a work-for-hire arrangement. All artwork created for this project, including sketches, drafts, character designs, and final illustrations, will be my exclusive property. You agree to:
Transfer full copyright and all intellectual property rights to me upon payment
Not use, reproduce, display, or sell any artwork from this project in your portfolio or elsewhere without my written permission
Sign a written agreement confirming these terms before work begins
We can agree milestones for rough sketches, colour proofs and final art; I review quickly so the schedule stays smooth. If you have experience drawing gentle expressions, rounded shapes and cosy nighttime lighting, I’d love to see a few portfolio samples that match this tone.
