Bitmoji-Style Avatar and Scene Development in App
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Job Description: Developer + Animator for Modular Avatar System (Freelance)
(Similar to Bitmoji-style avatar + scene insertion)
We are looking for an experienced software developer with strong skills in animation, modular character systems, and layered asset composition, to help us build a system similar in concept to Bitmoji:
A user creates an avatar from modular parts
That avatar is automatically inserted into different scenes/images
Our project requires someone who can help implement this full pipeline on a technical level and provide a working example.
Responsibilities
1. Modular Avatar Builder (Bitmoji-Style)
Build a system where a user-created avatar is generated by combining modular elements (head shapes, eyes, mouth, hair, expressions, etc.).
Ensure every component fits together cleanly and scales correctly.
Structure the system so avatars can easily change expressions or poses—just like Bitmoji avatars adapt depending on the scene.
2. Avatar Variations (Expressions, Views, Emotions)
Implement or guide the creation of multiple avatar variations:
different facial expressions (happy, surprised, sad, excited, etc.),
slight pose changes,
multiple viewing angles.
Similar to Bitmoji: one avatar but hundreds of emotional/pose variations.
3. Scene Integration (Avatar Inserted into Images)
Create a reliable way to insert the constructed avatar into different scene images, replacing a placeholder area.
Provide:
logic for loading a base scene image,
logic for placing the avatar at the correct coordinates,
scaling the avatar to fit naturally,
exporting the combined final image.
4. Technical System Setup
Help define the architecture for managing the avatar’s modular assets.
Implement reusable, documented code for:
loading avatar components (preferably SVGs),
rendering and compositing them into a single avatar,
inserting the avatar into scenarios/scenes (Bitmoji-style).
Deliver at least one complete example (avatar piece → full avatar → avatar inside a scene).
Required Skills
Strong programming ability (JS/TS, Canvas, PixiJS, or alternative frameworks).
Experience with layered character systems, sprite composition, or avatar builders.
Familiarity with handling SVGs (layering, scaling, coloring, merging).
Experience with image composition or 2D animation frameworks.
Ability to create scalable, maintainable code and document it clearly.
Nice to Have
Experience with mobile app frameworks (React Native, Flutter) or web-based editors.
Knowledge of rigging or simple animation systems.
Experience building tools similar to Bitmoji, ReadyPlayerMe, Character Creator 2D, etc.
Deliverables
A modular avatar builder system capable of producing Bitmoji-style characters.
A functioning scene integration example (avatar inserted into an image).
Full source code and documentation.
One complete demo showing:
avatar assembled from modular pieces,
variations in expression or pose,
avatar placed into a scene image with correct alignment.
What We Provide
All avatar component art assets (SVG/PNG layers).
Scene images containing avatar placeholders.
Clear technical requirements, references, and ongoing collaboration.
What To Include in Your Application
Previous work related to Bitmoji-style avatar systems, animation, or modular characters.
Explanation of your preferred tech stack for assembling avatars and handling image composition.
Estimated timeline and availability.
