Ottoman Empire Essay

A well-regarded theorist of empire describes imperialism as simply “the process or policy of establishing or maintaining an empire.” What was Ottoman imperialism? What, in your opinion, was the most important facet, method, or tool of Ottoman imperialism? Why? How did it differ from other elements of Ottoman imperialism?

You are expected to demonstrate a mastery of both the conceptual approaches as well as the empirical information that we have covered during the first half of the semester.
Your essay must be 5-7 double-spaced pages (size-12 font, Times New Roman font, one-inch margins) and use only footnotes. No in-text citations. As far as sources are concerned, you are limited to using assigned reading and lecture notes (lecture notes must be cited as student’s notes, not as the professor’s words).
