Advice on electronics regulatory compliance
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I am working on a small electronics project that will read out data from an electrical appliance and send this to a remote server. I have a rough idea of what standards I need to adhere to and what testing I need to do in Europe, but I would like to make this available in the US and potentially Australia too and know less about the landscape there. I am looking for someone knowledgeable who could spend an hour or so either on a Zoom call or via email just to read a description of what the device will be, and to give me a few pointers on where to get started. It doesn't need to be as detailed or complete as a report from a commercial lab doing these things, I'm happy to do research myself but would just like some initial help to get started, e.g. which IEC norms to look at.
The device will likely use an ESP32 microcontroller for Wifi, which I believe should not require additional certification. It will attach to an electrical applicance likea fridge, coffee machine or similar, in a commercial (restaurant) setting. My device itself will only be using 5V or so, but might need to interface with the host device's electronics which might be a slightly higher voltage DC such as 12V. Everything will likely be in a grounded metal chassis, and we're hoping we won't have to run any cables to the outside of this.
